Children and youngsters need a safe place to play that encourages them to go outside, especially in uderserved neighbourhoods, where space is often limited and safe outdoor play is not a given. That is exactly why sporting outdoor spaces make the difference. That is why we create multifunctional sports areas in neighbourhoods, with a Cruyff Court at the heart. These are meeting places where children learn the value of togetherness, build friendships, discover their own talents and experience what it means to win and lose. Valueble experiences that support their development physically and mentally, but also in society.
The multifunctional design of each sports area is shaped through participation from local residents and stakeholders. This ensures the layout truly reflects the needs of the neighbourhood, making every space unique. A great example of such a multifunctional sports area is Cruyff Court Frenkie de Jong in Gorinchem, The Netherlands. It is located in an area with seven schools, including a technical school and a special education school, a shared innovative learning environment (i_lab), a mosque and a sports hall.

At the Cruyff Courts, children can freely play sports and be active. In addition, they take part in a wide range of sports and play activities organised by local community sports coaches and youth workers. Many of them are trained as Cruyff Foundation Coaches and, together with local youngsters, run the Heroes of the Cruyff Courts programme.
The organisation and programming at the Cruyff Courts is an essential part of every Cruyff Court. Together with local stakeholders, we ensure a safe, structured and inclusive environment, where not only football takes centre stage, but there is also space for other sports, games and targeted activities for girls.
