Proud to announce our new board member Edwin van der Sar! Edwin, who has been a very involved Cruyff Foundation ambassador for many years, is now taking the next step to become a board member.
Johan Cruyff was a passionate advocate of the fact that sports organisations should be led and managed by people from the sports field. And that obviously perfectly describes Edwin van der Sar. After an extremely successful football career at clubs including Manchester United, AFC Ajax and the Dutch National Team, Edwin completed the Sport Management Master at the Johan Cruyff Institute and has since been working for Ajax for almost 10 years, since 2016 holding the position of General Director.
Niels Meijer, the Cruyff Foundation’s General Director, is very honoured by the new addition to his board. ”Edwin has a vast amount of experience and a strong network in the sport. His knowledge, international allure and personality all make him a great addition to the board”
Edwin's experience with his own foundation, the Edwin van der Sar Foundation, is certainly also very welcome. Plus his experience in the UK, where the Cruyff Foundation is active with a significant number of projects and definitely has many more ambitions, is also of huge value to the Cruyff Foundation.
Edwin is pleased to commit himself to the Cruyff Foundation: "Johan Cruyff has meant a lot to me. As an ambassador, I already occasionally supported his Foundation, especially with sports activities for children with special needs, with which we are also closely involved with Ajax. I think it is special to give something back as a board member from now on and to help to continue his legacy via this new role.”

The Cruyff Foundation had already parted ways with board member Michael van Praag in January. Michael continued Johan Cruyff’s mission for an impressive 12 years and we are very grateful for all his efforts.
