The FC Barcelona player and 2026 FIFA World Cup champion attended the opening of this new sports facility, which was built in collaboration with the Martorell City Council.
The second Cruyff Court was officially opened today in Martorell, Barcelona, alongside FC Barcelona footballer Eric Garcia. From now on, the new facilities will serve as a meeting place where children and young people from the local area can play sport in a safe, educational and accessible environment for all.
The event was attended by Eric Garcia, FC Barcelona player; Susila Cruyff, president of the Cruyff Foundation Spain; Pati Roura, director of the Cruyff Foundation Spain and Xavier Fonollosa, mayor of Martorell.
The ‘Cruyff Court Eric Garcia’ is the second sports facility of its kind in Martorell, reinforcing the local council’s commitment to children’s development through physical activity. This partnership builds on the initiative launched in March 2017, when the town’s first Cruyff Court was opened in the presence of former FC Barcelona player Hristo Stoichkov.
Cruyff Courts are small, freely accessible football courts that the Foundation promotes in neighbourhoods around the world with the aim of fostering sport as a tool for social transformation, the transmission of values and personal development. As well as providing a space for play, the project aims to promote values such as respect, teamwork, responsibility and social cohesion, whilst also helping to prevent a sedentary lifestyle and childhood obesity. The network currently comprises more than 340 Cruyff Courts worldwide.
With this new opening, the Cruyff Foundation and Martorell City Council are reinforcing their commitment to the local area and to creating opportunities for children and young people, whilst keeping Johan Cruyff’s legacy alive.
