Street Sports for Gender Equality

A guide to promote gender equity in street sports, developed by the Johan Cruyff Foundation, Utrecht University, and IKF Göteborg, with EU support.

Currently, the percentage of girls participating in sports or engaging in street sports each day is significantly lower than that of boys. Furthermore, research indicates that girls in puberty are more vulnerable to dropping out of sports compared to boys. This dropout trend leads to increased physical and mental health issues in the long term, fewer social connections, higher absenteeism, and decreased productivity in the workplace.

How can more girls be attracted to street sports?

Street Sports for Gender Equity Toolkit

Outdoor play fuels physical, mental, and social growth, but too often, girls are excluded from public play spaces.

The Cruyff Foundation, Utrecht University, and IKF Göteborg joined forces, supported by the EU, to close the gender gap in street sports.

Designed with coaches and experts, this practical, research-based toolkit gives you:

  • ✅ Ready-to-use activities
  • ✅ Strategies to engage girls
  • ✅ Tools to build inclusive spaces

Create courts where every child feels welcome. Use this toolkit to inspire, include, and empower.
