In the heart of the metropolis Chinese city of Nanyang, a brand-new Cruyff Court has officially opened. This Cruyff Court is part of a wider initiative known as WeParks: public, multifunctional sports facilities designed to be accessible to everyone.

The opening ceremony was marked by festive sports and play activities for children, as well as speeches from partners. Notable guests included André Haspels, Dutch Ambassador in China, and Huub Buise, Minister Counsellor for Economic and Trade, were present to celebrate the milestone in Nanyang.

Ms. Zhou Li, Chairwoman of Happy Sports China Group, said: "As the first Cruyff Court in Henan Province, it will provide a wonderful journey of happy football for the children who come to WePark. Regardless of their background and conditions, they can enjoy the joy of football here. This Cruyff Court has brought new vitality into youth football and community sports.”

The city of Nanyang

With a population of over 10 million, Nanyang holds a prominent position in the southwest of Henan Province. The new WePark is strategically located in the Wolong District, ensuring that as many children, schools, and local residents as possible can benefit from it. Within a 15-minute radius of the facility, an estimated 40,000 people have direct access to the park.

This Cruyff Court will play a central role in promoting physical activity and community engagement. It is actively integrated into local primary school programmes and local coaches offers free sports activities every afternoon.

Cruyff Foundation in China

This marks the sixth Cruyff Court in China, with plans to expand to 50 sports projects in the coming years. In China, the Cruyff Foundation works closely with the Happy Sports China Group to bring these projects to life. Alongside the construction of new Cruyff Courts, the Cruyff Foundation will train Cruyff Foundation Coaches. These coaches lead sports activities and mentor youngsters- supporting their development both on and off the pitch.

This project was made possible through the collaboration of the Nanyang Municipal Government, the Wolong District Government, and the Wolong Industrial Investment Group. The initiative also owes its success to the continued support of local schools, neighbourhood communities, coaches, volunteers, and above all, the committed team of Happy Sports China.
