The current FC Barcelona player attended the opening of this new space in Sant Andreu de la Barca, the town where he grew up.

Today, a new Cruyff Court was officially opened in Sant Andreu de la Barca (Barcelona) with Gerard Martín, FC Barcelona footballer, in a ceremony full of emotion, commitment and sport. From today, this new space will become a meeting point for boys and girls in the municipality, who will be able to enjoy football in a safe, accessible and educational environment.

The event was attended by Gerard Martín, FC Barcelona player; Pati Roura, director of the Cruyff Foundation Spain; and Marc Giribet, mayor of Sant Andreu de la Barca.

Gerard Martín, FC Barcelona player: “When I was little, I used to play football in the park next to my house. It is very important that the children in the Palau neighbourhood have a pitch like this where they can play and develop. If I were a child, I would love to come here every day after school.

Cruyff Courts are small, free-to-use football pitches that the Foundation promotes in neighbourhoods around the world with the aim of promoting sport as a tool for social transformation, the transmission of values and personal development. In addition to providing a space for play, each Cruyff Court has an educational sports programme that promotes respect, teamwork, responsibility and social cohesion.

This new Cruyff Court in Sant Andreu de la Barca strengthens our commitment to the local area and to creating opportunities for children and young people through sport. This initiative keeps alive the legacy of Johan Cruyff, who believed that sport is a powerful tool for transforming lives.

With this opening, we are creating a new space where the ball will roll again every day, turning the game into an opportunity for children to grow and develop.
