Cruyff Courts
A Cruyff Court is a modern alternative of the ancient green, which one could find in a lot of neighbourhoods and districts, but has over the years been sacrificed due to urbanization and expansion.
With the Cruyff Courts the function of the old green has been brought back to the neighbourhood.
The local children get a good safe place where they can play sport and through the cooperation of the local council, corporations, schools, sport and football clubs and local businesses, the Cruyff Court also has an important social function in the neighbourhood.
The Johan Cruyff Foundation has realized over a 100 Cruyff Courts all over the world. A great part of these Cruyff Courts are based in the Netherlands. However, in specific situations Cruyff Courts can be realised abroad. For example the Cruyff Court at the Dutch Antilles and Aruba was realized in association with the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, some Cruyff Courts as an award for the Talent of the Year of the Dutch Premier League, like in 2007 the Cruyff Court Ibrahim Affelay, who in 2009 opened a Cruyff Court in Al Hoceima, Morocco and in Oktober 2008 the Dennis Bergkamp Court in London, has been made possible through the revenues of his Testimonial Match.
Here is an overview of all the Cruyff Court locations in the Netherlands and abroad (Google Maps).
